Chale, Beaches are Balding
Sand winners still winning.
DEEP DIVE
Sometimes, a man with a full head of lush hair suddenly finding patches of baldness. At first, it’s barely noticeable, but over time, the patches grow, and what was once a thick mane is now “the Lord is my barber” style.
Ghana’s coastline is facing a similar fate, with vast stretches slowly vanishing into the ocean.
The Ghana Hydrological Authority has sounded the alarm: two-thirds of our precious coastline is at risk of being swallowed by the sea. That’s a staggering 370 km out of 550 km! And the culprits? Besides the relentless forces of nature, human activities like sand-winning are to blame.
Dr. John Kissi, the authority's CEO, recently shed light on this alarming issue. During a press briefing, he highlighted how critical national assets are at risk.
The Aboadze Power Enclave, which houses crucial thermal plants, could be underwater if we don’t act fast. Schools like St. Augustine SHS and essential roads such as the Denu-Alao Highway could also face the same fate.
Dr. Kissi is calling for action. He’s urging both the government and private sector to invest in coastal protection and climate adaptation. “All we are saying is that the government is doing a lot, we have already seen the eight ongoing projects, those that have already been completed but we are also urging the government to do more, to invest a bit more especially in those areas to protect the strategic assets,” he emphasized. Jinapor calls out Bawumia
The Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu, John Jinapor is sitting at his desk, shaking his head at the latest debate challenge from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Jinapor’s not having it. He’s got a bone to pick, and it’s not about who’s got the best debate skills.
Jinapor’s like, “Bawumia, bro, enough with the debates. Let’s talk about this Cedi situation. It’s sinking faster than a stone thrown into the river Volta, and we need some real solutions, not more talk.”
In a fiery chat with journalists, Jinapor didn’t hold back. He pointed fingers at the government’s gold-for-oil policy, calling it a major flop. According to him, while millions are being spent on this policy, the Cedi’s still nosediving, and fuel prices are climbing like there’s no tomorrow.
“The Cedi’s depreciating, fuel prices are through the roof, and everyone’s feeling the squeeze. Wages are stuck in the mud. No raises, no relief. The economic managers are dropping the ball.”
Jinapor’s message to Bawumia is crystal clear: “Chale, ditch the debate podium and go do some real work." Read more

In 19th-century Cape Town, South Africa, there was a baboon named Jack who worked as a railroad signalman for nine years without making a single mistake. Yeah chale, I knowww. That’s wild (pun intended).
Adopted by a man called James "Jumper" Wide who lost his legs in an accident, Jack not only pushed Wide's wheelchair but also mastered the art of switching train signals and even handing conductors their keys. His flawless performance earned him a paid position with the Port Authority Railway, complete with a daily wage of 20 cents and a weekly half-bottle of beer.
