QUICK BYTE
So, boom! Dr. Omane Boamah of the NDC is throwing red flags. He says some "illegal" re-collation vibes are going down at the Police Training School, and it's giving shady business. According to him, this is messing with the credibility of the elections (controversial, unnecessary, and just wrong). Now, he’s calling on the EC to pause the whole thing and organize an emergency meeting with political parties. Translation: everybody, come to the round table and fix this ASAP. Read more
The Tema Central election saga has escalated into a full-blown thriller. EC officer Ofusehene Asante claims some NDC bigwigs (MP Rockson Defeamekpor and Deputy Communications Officer Malik Basintale) turned up the heat with threats and crowd chants, forcing him to announce Ebi Bright as the winner before results were fully collated. And even the police? Not much help. In a letter to Jean Mensa, he spills all the tea. He’s now asking for the declaration to be scrapped, saying the real winner should’ve been NPP’s Charles Forson by 55 votes. Jean Mensa has confirmed receipt of Asante’s letter, and all eyes are on the EC to see how this drama unfolds. Read more
The Nsawam-Adoagyiri election results are giving major telenovela vibes. The recollation of 82 pink sheets has turned the Ghana National Police Training School into a reality show set, with NPP and NDC throwing hands (not literally… yet). The NPP is like, “We’re not leaving until this thing is done right.” Meanwhile, the NDC is screaming, “Stop the whole process, fam!” The Electoral Commission (EC) is trying to referee, but it’s looking like a group project where no one agrees. For now, the recollation has been postponed to 6 a.m. today—Then there’s the subplot—businessman Alfred Woyome and MP OB Amoah throwing shade like they’re on a Twitter beef. Read more
Afenyo-Markin’s out here defending himself like he’s on an episode of Judge Judy. Stan Dogbe called him out for “disrespecting” Mahama, but Afenyo’s all like, “Excuse me, what? You got receipts or nah?” He’s just trying to keep things cool—no machetes, no shouting matches. Just a little peace and quiet, please. Get the 411 in the Deep Dive section below
FACT OF THE DAY
Sunsets on Mars are blue
President-elect Mahama isn’t here to play with lazy bones. During a visit with the Chief Imam, he dropped some truth bombs for aspiring appointees: “No hard work, no appointment.” Basically, if you’re not ready to grind like a TikToker chasing virality, stay in the private sector, fam. He reminded everyone that Ghanaians might be chill, but when they’ve had enough of your slacking, the clapbacks come fast and hard. Long story short, Mahama’s Cabinet is strictly BYOH—Bring Your Own Hustle. Read more
Abiola Kayode, a 37-year-old Nigerian, found himself on the FBI’s Most Wanted list for his role in a $6 million fraud scheme. He was extradited from Ghana to the U.S. to face charges linked to a business email scam that tricked businesses into sending wire transfers. Kayode’s now sitting in a Nebraska courtroom, and it looks like his inbox is about to get real full with legal troubles. Get the 411 in the Deep Dive section below
DEEP DIVE
Stan vs Afenyo
Stan Dogbe comes through with a Facebook post accusing him of Afenyo of disrespecting President-elect Mahama. Afenyo’s like, “say what?”
Apparently, all Afenyo said was, “Hey, can we get some peace around here? Maybe tell your squad to chill out?” But Stan’s over here acting like Afenyo just threw a pie in Mahama’s face. Afenyo’s like, “Nah, fam, I’m just trying to stop y’all from turning the polls into a WWE ring.”
Dogbe’s over here threatening Afenyo, trying to flex with some “you better watch your mouth” energy, and Afenyo’s response? “You think I’m scared of some threats? Nah, I’ll be the first to take one for the team, but I’m not gonna run. I’m here for peace, not for drama!” Read more
Abiola Kayode learned that the hard way
You think you’re safe sitting halfway across the world in Ghana, but if you’re involved in defrauding millions from businesses, no one’s safe. Abiola Kayode learned that the hard way. This guy was allegedly deep in a business email scam that ran from 2015 to 2016, and, well, it looks like his luck’s run out. After tricking employees into wiring money through emails that looked legit, Kayode managed to pocket a cool $6 million. It sounds like a plot straight out of a Mission Impossible movie, right? Only this time, the agents weren’t wearing suits—just FBI badges and a one-way ticket to Nebraska.
He wasn’t working alone. Kayode had an entire crew who posed as company big wigs, using spoofed emails to tell employees to wire money to accounts that, spoiler alert, were under Kayode’s control. It’s like that one time your “bank” texted you asking for your PIN, but instead of giving them your info, businesses actually complied!
Now, after being caught and extradited, Kayode is in Nebraska, with a trial ahead of him. And it’s not just Kayode who’s feeling the heat. Several of his co-conspirators have already been sentenced for their roles in this scam, with some paying hefty restitution fees. Seems like karma is catching up with these fraudsters one by one, and if Kayode thought Ghana was his safe haven, it’s clear the FBI doesn’t miss a trick.
The FBI’s got a message for the remaining co-conspirators: “We’re coming for you.”
Honestly, if there’s one takeaway from this, it’s that no matter how far you think you can run—be it to Ghana or to the moon—if you mess with the wrong people’s money, there’s no escape. Kayode might have thought he was out here living his best life, but now he’s about to find out that the FBI’s inbox doesn’t forget. Read more
