Game of Thrones
Guess who isn't going back to parliament.
Phew, what a weekend! From the drama to the “what did I just hear?” moments, we’ve got all the tea. Last week, we had Benjamin Gyewu out here saying if Mahama wins, we should send him off to his ancestors with some kerosene and a match. Then Agradaa said she’ll dust off her fetish priestess robes and wear them again, and Prophet Azuka was out here suggesting we set his church on fire. The drama!
Now that Mahama might actually be cruising his way to the highest office, the real question is: What are these three gonna do? Is the kerosene still on standby, or did they just misplace their matches?
While they think about their next move, let’s focus on your next move below:
Politics: Game of Thrones: Meet the ministers who lost their seats in the 2024 polls.
Sports: Inaki Williams slots in his 80th La Liga goal like it’s nothing.
Politics: Election cheats: the NDC is watching and waiting with receipts and a lawyer.
Politics: Naa Koryoo blows Hawa Koomson away.
Politics: CODEO’s like your mom saying, “Calm down, the food’s almost ready”—and Ghana, you’d better listen.
Fact of the Day: What is the fastest car in the world?
Politics: After losing in the 2024 elections, Appiah-Kubi’s saying “peace out” to politics.
National: Peace Council’s calling for a chill pill.
QUICK BYTE
The 2024 elections were full of plot twists, and this one’s got all the drama. Big names from the NPP like KT Hammond, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, and Hawa Koomson were ousted by their opposition rivals, mainly from the NDC. It’s like the political version of a reality TV elimination round. Get the 411 in the Deep Dive section below
Dr. Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections, is still in vigilante mode. He’s letting electoral returning officers know: "Mess with the rules, and you’re gonna mess with the law." In simpler terms—if you’re planning on any shady moves at the collation center, think again. Jail time isn’t as cozy as you think. The NDC is watching the polls closer than your crush watches your IG stories. So you thought election 2024 is over? Nah! It’s about to be tighter than a budget after Black Friday. Read more
Ghana, take a deep breath and sip some water—CODEO’s says they got eyes everywhere, and are asking everyone to calm their vibes and let the EC drop the official results. Their squad sampled 1,500 polling stations, and guess what? Party agents and presiding officers signed almost everything, like a class attendance sheet. So, no need to stress. Meanwhile, they gave a special shout-out to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate, for conceding early. Read more
When Inaki Williams signed up for Athletic Bilbao 10 years ago, who knew he'd become their forever bae? On Sunday, the Ghanaian forward hit his 80th La Liga goal, helping Bilbao swipe a clean 2-0 win over Villarreal. No VAR drama, no long thing—just smooth operator vibes. Four goals and four assists this season? Yeah, Inaki's still THAT guy. He’s been aging like Ghanaian jollof left overnight—better with time. Read more
FACT OF THE DAY
The fastest car in the world is the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut, which recently broke four world records for speed (330 MPH) and performance in one single day.
And just like that, Andy Appiah-Kubi, the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, has made his official exit from active politics. After being dethroned in the 2024 general elections, Appiah-Kubi has announced he’s done with the political game for good. The NPP candidate garnered just 8,933 votes, far behind the victor, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, who bagged 26,926 votes. Appiah-Kubi says he’s now focused on a smooth leadership handover—no drama, just passing the baton. Politics? Sune sune. He’s out. Read more
Hawa Koomson, the OG Awutu Senya East MP and Minister for Fisheries, thought she had this on lock. Spoiler alert: she didn’t. Naa Koryoo came through like a storm, scooped 50,886 votes, and left Hawa standing at 46,638. You know it’s real when even the goats in Kasoa are bleating NDC slogans. So, it’s official—Hawa Koomson is out, and Naa Koryoo is in! Read more
Ayy, the 2024 elections brought out the best... and the absolute worst. You know how Ghanaians can get when results are dragging? Well, someone decided to turn that “I’m tired of waiting” energy into full-on chaos. In Damongo, the collation centre and the EC office became toast—literally. The National Peace Council and WANEP are now begging Ghanaians and asking political parties to tell their supporters to take it easy and vacate the collations centres. Let the experts handle it—no need for everybody and their family members and pets to turn up. Meanwhile, the police have arrested 12 people who thought it was a good idea to loot, break into warehouses, and even take down a school feeding warehouse. Read more
DEEP DIVE
Elimination Round
KT Hammond: The Trade Minister Who Got Traitor’d
Okay, let’s start with KT Hammond. This guy has been in politics long enough to have probably advised Nkrumah on trade deals (okay, maybe not that long, but close). Adansi Asokwa was once his fortress, a place where no NPP guy dared to lose. But, in a shocking twist, he got dethroned by the NDC’s Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani. KT only lost by 954 votes—imagine losing by that close margin!
Ayawaso Central: Where Henry Quartey Lost His “Interior”
Next up, we’ve got Henry Quartey, the Minister for the Interior, who thought his seat in Ayawaso Central was pretty safe. But, guess what? The NDC’s Abdul Rauf Tongym Tubazu swooped in with 29,755 votes. Quartey, poor guy, got only 23,345 votes, like trying to win a race in Chale Wote. 😬 Not exactly the home stretch you want when you’re trying to defend your position.
Awutu Senya East: Mavis Hawa Koomson’s Shock Exit
Then came Mavis Hawa Koomson, the Minister for Fisheries. We thought she was a strong contender, but Naa Koryoo snatched that seat like it was a prize at a carnival. She bagged 50,886 votes, leaving Hawa Koomson with 46,638—a win, but not by much!
Sekondi: Tourism Minister Who Got Lost in the Polls
Now, onto Sekondi, where Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer, the Tourism Minister, was handed an unexpected vacation from politics. Blay Nyameke Armah of the NDC won with 14,558 votes—outpacing Mercer by over 3,000 votes. Talk about being booked for a long holiday that you didn’t sign up for.
Ayawaso West Wuogon: John Dumelo’s Victory Lap
And the ultimate “plot twist” of all? John Dumelo, the actor turned politician, knocked out Lydia Alhassan in Ayawaso West Wuogon. Lydia, who was also the Minister for Sanitation, might’ve hoped to clean up in this election. But, guess what? Dumelo dropped 40,561 votes, beating her by a massive margin. Lydia got only 27,377 votes.
Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro: Sylvester Tetteh, Bye-Bye!
Finally, Sylvester Tetteh, the Deputy Minister for Information, thought he was safe in Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro, but he lost to Okle Felix Akwetey of the NDC, who cruised to victory with 37,473 votes. Sylvester, meanwhile, got stuck with just 27,888.
