QUICK BYTE

  • Joyce Bawah Mogtari is out here telling Jean Mensa to “respect herself” and resign as Electoral Commission Chair, like yesterday. After the drama of the 2024 elections, Mogtari claims the EC was moving mad—delayed results (like, girl, if everyone already knows the score, why are you holding up the show?), botched ballots, and vibes that screamed anything but credible. • You know how people say the "youth are the future"? Well, in Wenchi, they’re also apparently the present, and right now, that present includes a lot of drama. A bunch of youth took matters into their own hands, beat up the Police Commander, and let 8 prisoners out. Just like that. Get the 411 in the Deep Dive section below

  • Sunday isn’t just a game; it’s the game. Kotoko vs. Hearts of Oak, the battle of the titans, the El Classico of Ghanaian football. Prosper Ogum, the head coach of Kotoko is already doing his pep talk thing—not just for his players but for the fans too. He’s like “Guys, we need you in the stands screaming like your rent just went up by 200%!” The logic? When the fans are hyped, the players get turbocharged. When the players get turbocharged, well, Hearts of Oak better pack their A-game or risk being sent back to Accra with a fat L. Read more

  • So, WAEC needs GH₵118 million from the Ministry of Education, and it’s holding up the release of the 2024 WASSCE results. Why? Because their scanners broke down, and now everything is delayed. If you're hoping for results soon, well... that depends on when the funds get cleared up. Get the 411 in the Deep Dive section below

FACT OF THE DAY

Lizards communicate by doing push-ups.

  • The people of Okaikwei Central voted. Period. Baba Sadiq got those votes like it was a TikTok viral moment. The vibe was clear: “Out with the old, in with the new.” The whole thing was like your phone telling you, “Storage full, delete some stuff.” In this case, the incumbent MP, Patrick Boamah was the "stuff" that didn’t make the cut this time. And he’s big mad. Baba Sadiq just wants him to take the L and move on. Read more

  • Okay, so you know how when you’re switching to a new phone, you don’t just pop in your SIM and call it a day? No, you gotta back up everything, make sure all your apps are still in place, and pray it doesn’t crash. That’s kinda what Frema Opare’s doing for Ghana’s political handover right now. She’s been appointed to lead the transition team to make sure the country stays in full-on democracy mode when the new president steps in. Read more

  • Ghana’s Armed Forces just wanted to remind everybody: soldiers on duty are authorized to use deadly force if they have to defend themselves. Yup, it’s like when your mom says “Don’t test me” – you KNOW she means business.. So, any funny business? Not gonna slide. GAF’s warning is straight to the point: you touch a soldier, they touch back (and it might be lethal). The bottom line is, public safety and military officers' lives are a priority, so any threat? Well, it could turn ugly real quick. Read more

DEEP DIVE

Run us the GHc118

Remember how we were all rooting for the students to get their results on time? Well, the delay isn't because of those long, agonizing hours of marking, but because WAEC’s scanning equipment had a “technical meltdown.” Yes, The scanners broke down, and that’s what’s holding up the scanning of the all-important objective cards.

Now, WAEC is like, "Yo, can you please send us that GH₵118 million already?" They need that cash to fix the scanners so they can get back to work. The kicker here is that if the money doesn’t come in, everything is going to be delayed. The results? Yeah, those are on ice too.

There’s a lot of talk online about when the results will be out, but the truth is, nobody knows until the tech issues are sorted. WAEC says they’re working on it, but they can’t do much if their scanners are chilling in some workshop somewhere, getting fixed. And, of course, the suppliers and examiners who are waiting for their paychecks are just like, “Yo, we’re cool, but when’s our money coming through?” Read more

THE YOUTH OF WENCHI VS DSP YIADOM

So here’s the story: DSP Nana Boakye Yiadom, the Municipal Police Commander, rolls up to Tohaba early Tuesday morning to arrest a suspect. Turns out, the suspect isn’t home. But his pregnant wife? She gets cuffed and brought to the station instead (huh?). Now, I don’t know about you, but if I were her, I'd be furious.

Of course, the youth weren’t having it either. They showed up at the police station, and it wasn’t to say “Hi!” They stormed in, destroyed the commander's car, trashed the office, and broke out eight prisoners from the cells.

Meanwhile, DSP Yiadom’s left nursing some serious injuries, and the police station? Well, it’s got a brand new open concept now, thanks to all the vandalism.

So DSP’s at the hospital, the police station’s in shambles, and the youth? They’re just chilling. Read more
